Chris Messina to Join Recipe for "Julie & Julia"

Chris Messina of “Six Feet Under” fame is in negotiations to star opposite Amy Adams and Meryl Streep in “Julie & Julia,” to be directed by Nora Ephron.

Columbia’s upcoming film “Julie & Julia” may welcome actor Chris Messina in its cast, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The film will be Nora Ephron’s adaptation of Julie Powell’s autobiographical book “Julie & Julia: 365 Days, 524 Recipes, 1 Tiny Apartment Kitchen.” Powell decided at one point to circumvent boredom and spice up her marriage by making every recipe in Julia Child’s “Mastering the Art of French Cooking.”

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Powell was encouraged by her husband to chronicle her culinary adventure in a blog, which she did and with great success. Her blog had such a following that Powell eventually wrote a book which was a non-fiction best-seller in 2005.

Ephron’s movie will star Amy Adams as the novice in French cuisine, while Messina, should negotiations work, will play her husband.

Meryl Streep is set to portray Julia Childs and Stanley Tucci is attached to play her husband. The famed cookbook author, who passed away in 2004 at the age of 92, will appear in a parallel post-World War II story line, per the Reporter.

Amy Robinson, Eric Steel, Laurence Mark and Ephron are producing the film. Scott Rudin and Dana Stevens will executive produce.

Principal photography is tentatively set to begin in March, according to the Hollywood reporter. Andrea Giannetti is overseeing the project for Columbia.

Chris Messina is especially known for his portrayal of Carrie Fisher’s (Lauren Ambrose) love interest during the fifth season of HBO drama series “Six Feet Under.” His screen credits include “You've Got Mail,” “Ira and Abby,” while his television work includes appearances in series such as “Medium” and “Law & Order.”

He next appears alongside Scarlett Johansson and Penelope Cruz in Woody Allen's “Vicky Cristina Barcelona” and Patrick Dempsey in Paul Weiland's “Made of Honor.”

Amy Adams has become the film critics’ darling after the release of Walt Disney’s romantic fantasy musical “Enchanted,” in which she starred as a princess who is ostracized from her fairy-tale home to modern-day New York.
