Another edition of the American Music Awards is over. As it usually happens with awards where the masses decide who the best is using their own and often weird criteria, this year’s edition was no exception. No matter how odd the line-up was, most of the winners took the mic and gave outstanding vocal performances. This proved that irrespective of the voters’ reasons to prefer one singer or another, there were enough people out there who voted based on singing abilities. One of the most surprising moves on the part of the production team was to not allocate a singing slot to Chris Brown, who took home the “Artist of the Year” Award.

Christina Aguilera was the starting act, and as usual, took everyone’s breath away with her powerful vocal performance. Another blonde followed her, Pink of course, who performed her new song “Sober” in a purple ball gown, clearly entertaining an enthusiastic audience. Later on, she performed a duet with Sarah McLachlan. Natasha Bedingfield sang the mellow “Unwritten”, Taylor Swift “White Horse” and Annie Lennox the widely-popular “Why”. Ne-Yo looked smart and astonished with his dance moves and Beyonce got everyone very excited with “Single Ladies”, again singing while performing what but be a very tiresome and physically challenging dance.

The Jonas Brothers had some trouble with their singing. They don’t have the best voices, and the sound system itself seemed a bit off-key during their performance. Kanye West acted odd, saying he wanted the awards, then taking the statement back and so on and so forth.
