Chris Brown Gettin’ No Love on Valentine’s Day

Everyone from Wrigley’s Doubleming Gum to the National Milk Producers to radio stations and now Valentine’s Day party organizers, are cutting ties with young music star Chris Brown in the wake of his alleged assault against girlfriend Rihanna.

The fallout from Brown’s arrest on suspicion of assault continues as the 19-year-old singer will no longer be involved in the “Got Milk” ads once the campaign ends this week, according to a statement from the company.

“The Milk Mustache campaign is taking the allegations against Chris Brown very seriously,” a company spokesperson said. “We are very proud and protective of the image of the Milk Mustache campaign and the responsible message it sends to teens. Mr. Brown's ad was launched last fall and is scheduled to end this week.”

Chris Brown was arrested on Sunday evening when he turned himself in to Los Angeles police following an alleged battery with a woman, who was later learned to be his girlfriend Rihanna. He was booked on suspicion of making criminal threats and released after posting a $50,000 bail.

Reports indicate that Rihanna suffered horrific contusions on both sides of her face and bruising to her head. What’s more disturbing are the reports of biting marks on her arms, hands and fingers.  The singer is reportedly cooperating with detectives as they launch a battery investigation against her boyfriend.

Neither of them has yet released official statements in connection with the tragic incident but people in Rihanna’s entourage, including her rep and grandmother, have spoken to the press saying they appreciate the concern but she was doing fine. However, Rihanna did cancel her upcoming public appearances, including her own birthday party on February 20 and a concert scheduled for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Friday.

Setting the tone earlier this week was Wrigley, who promptly suspended all advertisements featuring the R&B superstar, saying they were concerned by the serious allegations against the musician and decided to pull back the current ads, and cancel  any related marketing communications, until the matter is resolved. The company also canceled the popular commercial that played during the Grammy Awards, which was to have featured performances by Rihanna and Brown.

As a result of Sunday’s arrest, Brown himself withdrew from the NBA All-Stars, according to a league spokesperson. The singer was scheduled to participate in the basketball association’s All-Star festivities in Phoenix Sunday and was also planning to play in a celebrity game two days prior to the event.

Organizers for a Valentine’s Day party in Scottsdale, Arizaona, which Brown was supposed to host over the upcoming weekend, officially replaced the singer with rapper Nelly.

The latest to take action in regards to Brown’s arrest was a radio station in Cleveland, WAKS FM 96.5, which stopped playing all songs by Brown, according to Java Joel, the station's evening host.

Claiming they were following their listeners’ will, both the host and the station’s program director agreed that they should not air any of Brown’s music until his legal issues will be resolved.

“After the alleged incident, the phones exploded. It's all that people wanted to talk about. They were outraged at this alleged behavior and wondered why we were continuing to support his music. I agreed and immediately pulled all Chris Brown songs from my show until this thing shakes out in the legal system,” the host said in a press release issued by Clear Channel.
