How many times have you been told to adopt a healthy diet in order to improve your quality of life? Yes, I am sure that you have tried to do that, but how well have you succeeded?
In case you still have doubts about it, here is another reason that should make you eat more vegetables and fruits, give up red meat and alcohol and start exercising. A major study from the World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF) found that an estimated 39 percent of 12 major cancers could be prevented by adopting a healthy lifestyle.
“At the time of publication, roughly 11 million people worldwide are diagnosed with cancer and nearly eight million people die from cancer each year,” said Michael Marmot, who led the study from the World Cancer Research Fund and the American Institute for Cancer Research.
The 23-expert team involved in the study found that choosing a healthier lifestyle would prevent 43 percent of colon cancer cases and 42 percent of breast cancer cases in Britain, and 45 percent of bowel cancer cases and 38 percent of breast cancer cases in the United States.
“This report shows that by making relatively straightforward changes, we could significantly reduce the number of cancer cases around the world,” Marmot said.
A series of multinational bodies, civil society organizations, governments, schools, workplaces and institutions, health and other professional and people are all invited to plead for changes in our lifestyle. For example, schools should encourage students to exercise more and eat healthily. Doctors should provide more information about healthy living and cancer prevention. Least but not last, people should be aware of the fact that the healthier they eat, the longer they live.
