China is well known for the continuous fight against pornography, a fight that had its peak in 2005 and later in 2007. It now seems that China is going to go another step forwards in the total banning of pornography and as anyone can imagine, the Internet is their biggest problem.
It’s relatively simple to access porn over the Internet, but China has an ace up its sleeve. Search sites, such as Google and Baidu, were requested to cut off search results inking towards porn sites. Recently the Chinese government has asked the two Internet search sites to do this more efficiently as people are still managing to enter porn sites, even though these are outlawed.
China has also included sites that are popular with activists to contain ‘harmful materials” that could harm the minds of honest citizens. It is very interesting how all the sites containing pornographic materials, or linking to such sites, will be discovered.
The government has asked the help of the population in this case. China has also banned horror movies as they believe, and they have a point, that these movies negatively influence the minds of children. This might sound like good reasoning, but if china wants the world to think that as a country they are more open minded than believed, banning anything that might sound like a threat is not the way to go.
The new resolution is sponsored by seven government agencies, including the Ministry of Public Security, and the agencies vaguely threatened websites found guilty of spreading or even linking to pornography.
