China Holds World AIDS Parade in Hanoi

Even if China wants to hold a pledge to fight the discrimination against the people with AIDS, the activists are rather skeptical of the country’s decision because they believe it would be very little of them to do that regarding the fact that they didn’t do any improvements in the education system as to increase the consciousness of the disease.

Yet, the health authorities in China have pledged on Sunday to fight the intolerance shown to people with AIDS by unveiling a red ribbon, the symbol of HIV awareness, at the Olympic Bird's Nest stadium in Beijing. Minister of Health Chen Zhu said that the intolerance regarding the people infected with HIV represents the obstacle in the effective reply to AIDS disease. He added that they needed to connect all sectors of China to fight against these issues.

On Monday, the ministry released a statement through which he transmitted that the government will empower their efforts in education on AIDS prevention and that they will fight the intolerance shown to this disease. Yet, the AIDS activists remained skeptical at China’s decision because the topic of AIDS inside their country remains sensitive.

Li Fangping, a lawyer and AIDS activist, stated that even if he supported China’s pledge, he believed that their act is not a reality. He added that the people infected with HIV are denied treatment in hospitals and many have even died because of this.

Li also stated that many people are still afraid to send their healthy children to schools were they can interact with children who have AIDS. Last year in China, the health authorities announced that sex has taken over drugs as the main cause of HIV infections.
