Chevrolet concentrated all its concepts for the ultimate sports
car of the 21st century into its 2010 Camaro, which combines performance and
great looks with comfort, technology and high fuel efficiency.
With a retro-look that brings us back to the sixties, and some
tough competition to get through, Chevrolet Camaro is “a sports car for a new
generation of enthusiasts,” as Ed Peper, Chevrolet vice president, said in a
statement.
By combining elements of the past in terms of design, with
elements of the future, in terms of performance, comfort and fuel efficiency,
Camaro brings a value that competition (Ford Mustang and Dodge Challenger) can’t
match, Peper believes.
The sales are scheduled to begin in the first quarter of
2009. Camaro comes in 10 different colors, with family of 18-, 19- and 20-inch
wheels, heritage-inspired interior design and ambient lighting via LED light
pipe technology.
The LS and LT models come with the 3.6L direct-injected V-6
engine with variable valve timing and a choice of six-speed manual or automatic
transmissions. The SS model comes with 6.2L V-8 and includes fuel-saving Active
Fuel Management and a six-speed manual transmission.
Technology wasn’t left aside either, despite all that
retro-look. Camaro comes with Bluetooth phone connectivity, Premium Boston
Acoustic audio system, USB connectivity, remote vehicle starting system, XM
Satellite Radio and the list continues.
Safety is a priority for Camaro, which offers driver and
front-passenger dual-stage air bags, driver and front-passenger seat-mounted
thorax side-impact air bags, head curtain side-impact air bags for front and
rear seat occupants, as well as a front-passenger detection system.
“The new Camaro is just that – new,” said Ed Welburn, vice
president of GM Global Design. “We acknowledge the nameplate’s strong heritage
in the design, but recognize that keeping this modern sports car relevant meant
more than simply honoring a classic car.”
