Cher acknowledged that she had a brief affair with Hollywood super star actor Tom Cruise during the 80's.

The 61-year-old singer (born Cherilyn Sarkisian) said she had an affair with Cruise in 1986, right when the actor was making his career start. At that time, Cher was 39 and Cruise 23. The young actor had just finished filming his hit film “Risky Business” and was working on “Top Gun”, according to the Daily Mail.

Cher acknowledged the affair during Oprah Winfrey’s show. According to the above mentioned paper, Cher told Oprah:

"I was crazy about him."

Cher also gave details about the young Cruise and described him as an awkward “shy” young man.

The show will be aired in the United States next month.

"It could have been a great big romance because I was crazy for him," said the well-known singer who won an Academy Award, a Grammy Award, an Emmy Award and three Golden Globe Awards.

Cher said the 23-year-old Cruise was “the most adorable man you can imagine”. The singer told Oprah about her dates with Cruise, who said to her that he felt like “such a boob” in school and wasn’t popular at all. However, the two went on a date in a New York restaurant and the waitress was one of his former classmates. She recognized Cruise and gave him a lot of her attention.

The two dated for several months. The relationship – which probably started when the two met at a fundraising event in the White House – has ended when Cruise fell in love with his first wife, Mimi Rogers.

Cher also told Oprah that she is currently single, mainly because men find it difficult to date a celebrity of her caliber.

Tom Cruise, 45, divorced his first wife in 1990 and remarried with Nicole Kidman. The couple split in 2001 and in 2006 Cruise married Katie Holmes, who is the mother of his daughter Suri.
