News and rumors about Apple's new 3G iPhone have been
circulating since its initial announcement. The highly anticipated release, set
for July 11recently received a set of official additional information regarding
AT&T’s plans for its distribution and pricing plans. AT&T is the iPhone’s
official and sole carrier in the United States.
According to the carrier company, the prices will vary from
$199 to $699 depending on the model and contract options. The 8 Giga Bytes
version will be sold for $199 and the 16 Giga Bytes for $299, but only for
certain customers, who will have to meet several requirements. Even though the complete
list of conditions needed to be considered eligible has not been announced, it
seems that one of the sure things that could get you a cheap iPhone is if you
are already under a contract with AT&T. Surely, more information about this
will soon be available.
In one of the scenarios, if a user will want to upgrade to
3G his 8 GB device purchased before July 11, he will pay the $199 fee plus an additional
$18 upgrade fee; owners of the 16 GB model will pay $299 plus the $18 tax for
their upgrade.
If the users fail to be considered eligible they will step into
the second segment of pricing, with $399 for the 8 GB model and $499 for the 16
GB version. Unfortunately, both offers, even though present some rather steep
prices, will only be available combined with a two-year contract.
For the ones interested only in the device, there is also an
offer which does not involve any paperwork, at the price of, get ready, $599
for the 8 GB version and $699 for the 16 GB model.
The two-year contracts come with a few options, as users can
choose a $69.99 monthly fee which will include 450 voice minutes, 5000 night
and weekend minutes and also unlimited data. The initial contracts do not
include text messages, which cost an additional $5 for 200 texts a month, $15
for 1500 texts or $20 for unlimited messaging.
