The story of the boy genius, who has learnt to fight the
aliens through simulated “war games”, will soon be told in a new manner.
Chiar Entertaiment, a game studio that created Undertow, has
licensed the right to transform Orson Scott Cars’ SciFi work, “Ender’s Game”,
into a videogame.
Ender’s Game, written by Orson Scott Card in 1985, was
followed by “Speaker for the Dead”, “Xenocide”, “Children of the Mind”, “A War
of Gifts”, “Ender in Exile: Gange”, all the books being focuses on the life an
experiences of Ender Wiggin.
The first book takes place in 2135 and it describes the life
of Ender, who is trained at Battle School
to lead the human armies against the Formics, an alien species who intends to
invade the Earth.
Through simulated war games and training conducted in the
Battle Room, Ender rise through the ranks of Battle School
to become Earth's only hope for victory.
Chair Entertainment said that the game will be inspired by
this “Battle Room”, so my guess is that we can expect a tactics and strategy
game. And I am also willing to bet it will have a multiplayer component.
"The really cool thing about 'Ender's Game' is that
there's lots of potential for lots of types of gameplay. We wanted to initially
create the Battle Room, that's really what jumped out to me as a gamer that I
really wanted to play," said Chair's creative director Donald Mustard for
Reuters.
Chair plans to release its new game for all the platforms. In
fact, this is not the first collaboration between Orson Scott Card and Chair.
The two parties previously collaborated on the Chair
Entertainment Group property Empire, which the Company introduced in 2006 with
the launch of an Orson Scott Card-written bestselling novel of the same name. A
feature film based on Empire is in development by Warner Brothers and Chair has
future plans for video games and comic books based on the property.
"From the moment I started working with Donald Mustard
and his team at Chair, I knew that these were the guys I wanted to do the first
Ender's Game video game," said Orson Scott Card. "It's not enough to
slap the Ender's Game name on just any game - it has to be exciting, memorable,
and endlessly replayable. Chair shares my understanding of this and I am
looking forward to working with them to ensure the game is as authentically
Enderish as possible."
