Cell Phones Linked to Brain Tumors, a Threat for Human Health

Cell phones could be even more threatening for human health than smoking, recent studies suggest. Using mobile phone for more than 10 years could double the risk of brain cancer. This was the result of numerous studies on the link between mobile phones and malignant brain tumors.

Researchers hold discussions with companies and they hope to obtain cell phone records to identify long term users who might especially be at risk for health problems like brain tumors. Previous studies were based only on users’ recollections about their cell phone habits.

The cancer centers have issued warnings and advisories to people about the potential health risk of cell phone use and have suggested measures to protect themselves from the negative effects produced by the exposure to electromagnetic radiation emitted by the devices.

The advisory suggested shortening the length of conversation and keeping the phones away from the head by text messaging or using headsets or speakerphone options. Experts say the speakerphone is the best alternative because you keep the mobile phone away from your head. It is also recommended to use a Bluetooth earpiece, which still has radiation, but it is less harmful that the radiation you get when you use the cell phone close to your head. But you shouldn’t use the Bluetooth all the time because it spreads radiation into your year.

It is also recommended that children not use cell phones unless in an emergency. Children under three years are more exposed to this risk. The researchers say that mobile phone radiations affect the child’s brain cells and after a period of time this may lead to brain cancer.

Cell phone radiation is dangerous because of the amount of people that use it daily. The exposure to mobile phone radiation produces long term effects because the incubation period for a malignant tumour caused by mobile phone radiation may take 10 or even 20 years.
