It appears that the “Celebrity Apprentice” may not be the
best idea to revive the ratings that the show has seen dropping with the last
seasons.
“Celebrity Apprentice” premiered Thursday night on Channel 7
with 14 celebrities picked Donald Trump and called by him “14 of the world's
most successful celebrities.”
I wouldn’t hurry to call them celebrities if Omarosa counts
as a celebrity since she is a former contestant from the first season of the
show. Another two celebrities, if we could say so, are Piers Morgan who is a
judge at another NBC reality show and Nely Galán who works for NBC-Universal
for creating “telenovelas” in English, according to MSNBC.
Other celebrity contestants are actor Vinnie Pastore, who
was “Big Pussy” on “The Sopranos,” boxer Lennox Lewis and Tiffany Fallon
Playboy playmate.
The big attention is grabbed by KISS frontman Gene Simmons,
who is a businessman too.
The task from Thursday was for the stars, separated in men
and women teams, to sell hot dogs at a street corner in Manhattan.
The team with the biggest gain would win.
Omarosa chose to dress up her team mates in T-shirts with
the hot dogs on the front, while Simmons chose a different strategy. He got his
cell phone and called his rich friends and asked if they would come and buy a $5,000
hot dog. He said: "I'd like you to show up and buy a $5,000 hot dog. All
the money goes to charity. Will you do that for me?"
NBC said that the stars will be encouraged to use their status
in order to win the tasks their up to.
The show it’s not what it used to be at he beginning. Its
ratings dropped from 21 million viewers per week in the first season to 7.5
million last year. In May NBC thought of even canceling it, but the new NBC
co-chairmen Ben Silverman and Marc Graboff brought the show back on NBC.
One change in the new show, and a change that could have
been made a long time ago, is the longer boardroom where the winning team can
watch the arguments.
