Showbiz Promotions has dropped plans of selling a blonde-haired doll bearing the name of murdered toddler, Caylee Anthony.
The Florida promotions company from Jacksonville, intended to sell its Caylee Sunshine doll for $29.99, but on Tuesday the company's president announced on the company’s website the suspension of the launch plan after reviewing public response to the doll.
Jaime Salcedo, the company’s president, said that the blonde-haired, blue-eyed doll comes in a "Caylee Sunshine" T-shirt and intentionally does not look much like the child, because the producers thought it would be too morbid. The real Caylee had light brown hair and big brown eyes.
The song "You Are My Sunshine," which the little girl sang in home videos, plays when the 18-inch doll's bellybutton is pushed.
Salcedo wants the Caylee toy to "be a tribute" to Caylee Anthony, whose body was found by a utility worker in December in the woods near the place she lived in Orlando with her mother and grandparents. Caylee's mother Casey Anthony has been charged with killing her daughter and now is behind bars.
There are other items though bearing the doll's name which remain available.
Jaime Salcedo said he planned to donate some of the proceeds from the toy to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. He also said that the public had responded positively to potentially restart sales at another time in the future.
