Casio EXILIM Pro Ex-F1, Camera for the Perfect Picture

For those of us who want to catch the perfect photo, have it later and smile about it, Casio unveiled its latest EXILIM EX-F1 – a six-megapixel camera with 12x zoom and some very impressive burst shooting capabilities.

The new digital camera is capable of shooting up to 60 full-resolution images in one second and video at more than 1000 per second to realize a super slow-motion effect. The company plans to announce it Sunday at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.

An early version of the camera was shown at the IFA show in Germany in August 2007, but this new model, which will be presented at CES, has been improved against the IFA prototype, according to Takashi Onoda, an engineer at Casio’s research center that developed the camera.

The EXILIM EX-F1 camera has one of the abilities that any digital camera has missed until now. Photographers will be able to catch the perfect moment, as the EX-F1 will shoot bursts of 60 frames a second. To further come in the needs of it users, the camera can record up to 60 images before the shutter button is pressed. It does that by constantly recording and overwriting pictures as soon as the shutter button is pressed halfway down. Users can then review the individual frames to choose the precise moment that they want.

When it comes to movie department, the camera can record 512x384-pixel video at 300 frames per second, 432x192 at 600 frames per second and 336x96 at 1,200 frames per second. Moreover, the camera is able to record high-definition movies at 1920x1080 pixels at 60 frames per second, has a specially designed movie button like Canon’s PowerShot S5 ultrazoom and has an HDMI port to watch videos on an HDTV.

The lens aperture ranges from a maximum of f/2.7 at wide angle to f/4.6 at telephoto. The focal length ranges from the equivalent of 36mm to 432mm in terms of 35mm film cameras (that's 7.3mm to 87.6mm in real optical terms; the 1/1.8-inch sensor is significantly smaller than a full frame of 35mm film).

At $1,000, the Casio EXILIM EX-F1 will be the perfect camera for all of us who appreciate a good photo. Thousands of parents will be happy when catching the greatest smile on their babies’ face. It remains to be seen how many of these parents will be able to afford this new digital camera. However, it is worthy of any sacrifice.

According to the company, the new digital camera will be put on sale beginning with March this year.
