Don’t you just miss Carrie Bradshaw and her twisty romances
and flings? All of the Manolo Blahniks and the Jimmy Choos, her weekly column
and her sexhilarated friends?
I sure do. And now that the “Sex and the City” saga has been
dried out, everybody wants to make the most of Carrie’s adventures. This time,
however, Carrie will not utter those two words by any means (no, not “sex” and
“city”), it’s Mr. Big I’m talking about. He is out of the picture (we have no
idea whether they got divorced or not), but he sure was not there during her formative
years.
The well-known character is leaving Manhattan’s
Upper East Side for those not-so-famed school
years. Oh dear, I sure hope she will not be forced to wear an uniform. That
would actually kill her. Anyway, HarperCollins Publishers announced on
Wednesday that the author behind the popular series, Candace Bushnell, was
assigned to write “The Carrie Diaries,” a couple of teen novels which “takes
readers back to Carrie Bradshaw’s formative years in high school, giving an
inside look at Carrie’s friendships, romances and how she realized her dream of
becoming a writer.”
I wonder if Carrie used to have lunch in the same café where
she subsequently met with Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda or if she enjoyed
wearing her mom’s shoes. I can hear her screaming now, “Wait! I lost my Choo!,”
while running after a cab in the breathtaking New York, her very first love.
“I’ve always been interested in exploring Carrie’s teenage
years,” Candace Bushnell said. “Carrie in high school did not follow the
crowd—she led it. It was there that she began observing and commenting on the
social scene.”
The first book of “The Carrie Diaries” will be released in
2010.
Candace Bushnell’s next novel, “One Fifth Avenue” is due out
as soon as September 22.
