Canon unveiled
on Monday its new line of Vixia High-Definition camcorders, which record using
the AVCHD codec. The line includes the Vixia HF10 and Vixia HF100 Dual Flash
Memory camcorders and the HV30 camcorder. These three products join two other
devices that Canon released previously: the HG10 AVCHD Hard Disk Drive
camcorder and the HR10 AVCHD DVD camcorder.
Canon’s recently
released camcorders use the company’s own DIGIC DV II image processor. They all
feature optical image stabilization and share an HD CMOS Image Sensor that can
record full high def (1920 x 1080) images.
The HF10 Dual
Flash Memory camcorder has the ability to record video content to an internal
Flash drive along with an SDHC memory card. The Vixia HF 10 Dual Flash Memory device
costs $1,099 and features a 16 GB internal Flash drive, which can store up to 6
hours of video depending on the quality of the recorded content. The HF100
costs only $899, but it features only a SDHC-compatible flash memory slot.
According to
Canon, Flash memory was a good choice because it is more reliable than
traditional hard drives thanks to its solid state and its being less
power-hungry.
The third device
Canon released on Monday is the HV30 camcorder, which cost $999 and records video
content to MiniDV cassettes. It uses a 10x high def Video Lens, 2.9-megapixel
Full HD CMOS image sensor and a 2.7-inch widescreen LCD.
Excepting these
three camcorders, Canon revealed on Monday the DW-100 DVD burner as well, which
costs $269 and allows people burn their video content directly to DVDs without
having to transfer it on a computer first. The device burns both standard
definition DVDs and AVCHD DVDs, which can be played back on Blu-Ray Disc
players.
