Although it has only been in theaters for a couple of days,
“Twilight” can already see the sun rising on its dark path. According to Access
Hollywood, the long anticipated vampire flick grossed approximately $35.7 on
its opening day, including an impressive $7 million from Thursday midnight screenings, thus foreseeing an over $70
million total weekend haul.
In addition, the studio behind the popular movie starring
Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, Summit Entertainment, announced that a
film adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s saga’s second novel, “New Moon,” will be
definitely made. This represents incredible news for the franchise’s
aficionados, who packed theaters this weekend in order to witness the
not-so-ordinary love story between a blood-sucking creature and an innocent
human.
“Twilight” focuses on the romance between Bella Swan
(Kristen Stewart), who has just moved to Forks, Washington, so as to live with
her divorced dad, and her classmate, Edward Cullen (the adorable Robert
Pattinson), who proves to be an 108-year-old vampire.
In spite of the fact that
one would easily take him for a teenager, the odd character is member of a
“vegetarian” vampire family, who avoids blood sucking humans and has turned to
animals instead. Edward’s eeriness is so attractive, that Bella immediately
falls in love with him and they begin a forbidden relationship, which is
menaced by both other vampires and by Edward’s own wild instincts that cannot
be suppressed effortlessly.
“Twilight” easily follows in the footsteps of the “Harry
Potter” franchise, since it has one of the fiercest fan bases out there and has
stirred an incredible craze among adolescents, especially young girls. Just a
few more books and films to go and magicians will certainly face tough
competition from vampires.
