“Camp Rock” Will Make Many Teens Happy

When Disney sees that their previous shows are successful, they decide to pick up all ingredients, all good ideas and all good stories and make a movie which is so cramped up that one may feel like they’re in camp again: much noise and sometimes music, divas, rebels and shy kids.

This time, the magic formula didn’t work and “Camp Rock” is another cliché.

Shane Gray, played by Joe Jonas, is the lead singer of a very popular band, called Connect Three. He is the rebel. Mitchie Torres, played by Demi Lovato, is the poor and shy girl who wants to prove her talent and fit in with the cool, popular and rich girls led by Tess (Meaghan Jette Martin). For those who have no imagination or intuition at all and haven’t seen a teens’ movie by now, I’ll continue the story. Shane is supposed to stay at the camp in order to rehabilitate his image. Once he arrives there, he meets Mitchie and they help each other become great performers and also learn to stay true to themselves. Oh, let’s not forget that they fall in love too.

That’s pretty much all I could understand from the movie. The rest just seemed on the run and very messy. Even the trailer can give you head aches.

But, given the fact that teenagers will be mesmerized by Jonas and Levato and, let’s not forget the music, I’m sure “Camp Rock” will be a huge success. I think that was the whole plan. There is no insight, no possibility of understanding the characters or their decisions. It is just another commercial teens’ movie with no personality and no deep, meaningful message. The movie is two hours in a camp; a crowded and disoriented camp.

Because Disney is the producer,  the movie made its debut Thursday night on the Disney Channel, Saturday on ABC’s “Wonderful World of Disney” and again Sunday on ABC Family.
