“Camp Rock” hasn’t even launched, but Disney Channel is
already planning a sequel.
Gary Marsh, president for entertainment at Disney Channels
Worldwide, confirmed to New York Daily News that he was already in the process
of developing a “Camp Rock 2” script.
Marsh said that they already started talking about the types
of story lines. Now one might wonder how many types of story lines are there,
when we’re talking about a Disney musical…
Even though the title already reveals the plot, with its
climax and denouement and everything, let’s take a look at what happens in the
movie.
“Camp Rock” tells the story of the pop band The Jonas
Brothers, made up of real-life brothers Kevin, Joe and Nick Jonas. The black
sheep of the band seems to be the leader, Shane (Joe Jonas), who has had a too
diva-like attitude lately. And what do the other band members do, to correct
this? Of course, what band members usually do in such situations: they cancel
the band’s summer arena tour and send Shane to a summer rock’n’roll camp where
he is supposed to teach classes.
At the camp, he encounters Mitchie Torres (played by
Disney’s new rising star Demi Levato), a teenager who secretly works in the
camp’s kitchen with her mother, so that she can afford paying her classes.
Mitchie lies about her life and tries to hide her wonderful voice in order to
become friends with a girl played by Meaghan Jette Martin who is…take a guess:
a) smart and generous, b) beautiful and
friendly, c) popular and mean.
Tough one, eh?
Now, if we carefully watched Disney movies in the past, we
have already learned the lesson that hiding who you really are is baaaad. Of
course Mitchie learns this lesson too and wins Shane’s heart and everybody’s
happy and sings and dances.
Hopefully for Disney, the teens and the Jonas Brothers’ fans
will probably take another stereotypical of their movies without saying a word.
The film launches this weekend on three different networks.
