Cameron Diaz, 36, who lent her voice to Princess Fiona in
the animated film franchise Shrek (counting three titles so far), had nothing
but words of praise for the Broadway musical version of Shrek; and although she
enjoyed the show’s opening which she attended on Sunday, she does not intend to
take up the stage actor’s role herself.
Diaz was asked if she would play Fiona on stage. She
replied: "No. Absolutely not. What they do up there is, to me, impossible.
It's wonderful, though. They've done such a great job. They worked really hard,
and it really pays off."
The actress, despite her reluctance, thoroughly enjoyed the
production. ''It’s hilarious,'' she said. ''There are so many laughs. It's great
to see all the actors playing it together, because when we do it for the
animated films, we never see each other. We don't work together.''
Cameron Diaz will step into the shoes of Fiona in the fourth
part of the series, which will be released next year, along with Mike Myers and
Eddie Murphy who are known and loved for their roles as the golden-hearted
green ogre and the chatterbox Donkey.
Some other resounding names who attended the musical’s
opening counted among themselves America Ferrera, Joan Rivers and Ben Stiller.
The latter was accompanied by his wife, actress Christine
Taylor. He said that his family are all Shrek fans, and that they had come to
see the musical ahead of their children in order to see if it is suitable for
them.
