A nipple is too much! Janet Jackson knows it but apparently
Eva Mendes and Calvin Klein don’t…and they don’t seem to care, either. A Calvin
Klein perfume ad with Eva Mendes as the beautiful one and the perfume as the
great smelling one was banned by U.S. networks for its …nipple-ish
content.
According to the New York Daily News, the ad’s content is
too racy for television so..if you want to see the ad, you will have the
difficult job of opening your computer and entering Calvin Klein’s Web site.
There, you will see Eva Mendes rolling around in a bed, wearing no clothes and
then..a nipple makes its way to fame…while, of course Eva Mendes is being her
gorgeous self.
Ah, the perfume is called “Secret Obsession” and Eva Mendes says
in the ad that “between love and madness lies obsession.” And between releasing
an ad and banning it lies a nipple.
Tom Murry, president and chief operating officer of Calvin
Klein, Inc., said in a statement to the New York Daily News that the ban was “not
entirely a surprise for the U.S.
market,” adding that the company expected a “successful global launch.”
“We believe the commercial is exceptional and hits the mark
for Secret Obsession. ...We are anticipating a very successful global launch.”
While an edited version of the ad will appear stateside on
cable TV, the original will run abroad.
Calvin Klein doesn’t seem affected of the fact that the ad
was banned, as the company is known for its audacity and controversy in ads. We
all remember when the FBI investigated whether the ads which featured young
models constituted child pornography. And we all remember a teenage Brooke
Shields saying in an ad: “You want to know what comes between me and my
Calvins? Nothing.” The investigation concluded it was not child pornography.
