While Father’s Day is a joyful day for some, for others this
holiday is one of the worst days of their lives.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the Los Angeles Police
Department Officer Karen Smith said that, Sunday, a woman was shot by her
husband and then he kidnapped their two sons. Apparently the couple had grown
apart.
The woman, whose identity was not made public, was bringing
her two sons at her husband’s house in the 10400 block of McBroom Street. Authorities said that the
two started arguing and the man shot his wife at least 13 times. Although she
was in a very serious condition, she was able to speak while being transported
to the hospital.
The woman told police officers that her husband said he was
going to “kill her family and that he was going to flee to Mexico,” said
Smith, according to the Los Angeles Times. The woman has good chances of
survival.
The suspect, Jose Luis Ortega, 26, then took his two sons
Diego Fabian, 5, and Luis Gonzalo, 3. Ortega was driving a black 1998 Ford
Ranger truck with the license plate 7Z19738. Sunday evening, Ortega was still
on the road. Officials think that he wants to cross the Mexican border.
His car was found on a street in Lancaster.
Lt. Ted Matthews said Ortega was possibly armed and
dangerous. Authorities are searching for Ortega and his two sons.
