A former liposuction doctor from Beverly Hills, Calif. used fat from his patients to create biodiesel fuel, an investigation showed.
Dr. Craig Alan Bittner faces an investigation by the state’s public health department because of several lawsuits that allege he allowed his assistant and his girlfriend to perform liposuction without a medical license removing too much fat and leaving patients disfigured, according to Forbes.com.
California law apparently forbids the use of human medical waste to power vehicles.
The surgeon wrote on his Web site, which is no longer online, that most of his patients asked him to use their fat resulted after liposuction, for fuel “and I have more fat than I can use.” Besides, he added that this way he could actually save the Earth. “Not only do they get to lose their love handles or chubby belly but they get to take part in saving the Earth," Bittner said.
Bittner wrote on his former Web site that he performed an estimated 7,000 liposuction operations, adding that a gallon of human fat will produce about the same amount of biofuel.
The liposuction practice, Beverly Hills Liposculpture, closed its doors in November. Bittner left the country after closing his office. He wrote on his clinic's Web site that he was moving to South America to do volunteer work in a clinic.
An inquiry into the doctor is now in the works. It is believed that one gallon of gas is equal to one gallon of fat in terms of having the power to run cars.
