Caffeine has its medically acknowledged benefits for one’s health, and it is certainly effective when you roll out of bed and drink your first mug. However, doctors warn us against excesses, which are discouraged with the majority of substances. Of course, coffee makes no exception from this warning. One or two cups should be enough for an adult with a busy life, but having over 5 or 6 cups of coffee is highly discouraged by doctors.
A study was recently conducted by a team of researchers from the University of Durham, analyzing the effects of high intakes of caffeine on people’s bodies, systems and minds. Their extensive study was conducted on 200 students, who were asked a series of questions about their coffee-drinking habits and what effects they noticed.
The study unearthed interesting conclusions about the effects coffee has on our psyche, which translate to physically experienced phenomena.
It seems that students who had a significantly high intake of caffeine had triple chances of having heard inexistent voices than their fellow students who relied on low coffee intakes, usually around one cup of coffee or instant coffee.
Those who drank a lot of coffee also reported other strange incidents except hearing voices, such as sensing the presence of the deceased. It seems that even if you reduce your coffee intake to just two cups a day, you’re still prone to at least some mild hallucinations.
