Original “CSI” cast member Gary Dourdan will leave the drama
after eight years of portraying investigator Warrick Brown, according to media
reports.
Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Gary Dourdan,
original cast member of Emmy Award-winning CBS procedural “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation,”
is leaving the show after eight years of portraying investigator Warrick Brown.
According to an insider, the decision was a mutual one made
by the actor and CBS/Paramount, reports EW. CBS/Paramount has not confirmed the
date of Dourdan's last episode. As the 41-year-old actor’s contract expires
this season, he may make his last appearance on the successful show sometime in
the next month.
The same anonymous insider told EW that Dourdan could
reprise his role with occasional guest appearances in coming seasons.
While Dourdan has decided to leave the show, for reasons
which momentarily remain undisclosed, star William Petersen recently renewed
his contract with the network for a ninth season. Contracts for Marg
Helgenberger and George Eads have yet to be renewed.
It was only a few months ago that another longtime member of
the cast, Jorja Fox, announced she would leave the series before the start of
the eight season. The actress, who portrayed forensic scientist Sara Sidle, talked
to Entertainment Weekly in October and clarified that her decision to leave the
show had nothing to do with discontent over money.
“There are all these things I want to do. Some are personal.
Some are professional. And I really need to do some of them before I get too
old,” the 40-year-old actress said.
Gary Dourdan won a 2003 NAACP Image Award as Best Supporting
Actor for his role as Warrick Brown in CSI and has been nominated in the Best
Actor category for the role every year since.
