CES: Palm Pre Looks Promising, But Will It Turn Into A Winner?

Palm has perhaps lived in the shadow of other devices and operating systems lately, but when the phone maker decided it was finally time to re-launch the game, they knew they had to bring their best, so they introduced a powerful combo: Palm Pre and webOS.

During the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, some attendees got to play with it and write about it, which resulted in quite a confusion for consumers thinking of buying it. Why? Because despite all looking and sounding so good at first, everyone seems to be scared of getting disappointed on a closer look at Pre and it OS.

First of all, we must make a distinction between the two categories of consumers out there. One of the categories includes those tech-fans that buy a phone for the sole purpose of using it for their own needs, whatever those may be. The second category includes consumers that occasionally change their phone with the newest, shiniest, most talked-about gadget on the market, just because it’s popular.

For those in the second category, the Palm Pre and webOS might prove a strange choice, since it will probably have the hardest time competing with the Android gadgets that are expected to pour in this year, or even with the iPhone.

For those in the first category, Palm Pre is not a bad choice at all, and its operating system actually makes it hard not to buy one. Sure, it might not become as popular as other devices, but it might be just enough to re-launch Palm in the competition, and as long as it fits the users’ needs, does it really need to be more popular than the iPhone?

Palm has done an outstanding job with Pre and webOS, and this launch will hopefully help it escape the decline period. The phone and operating system have obviously been created with one idea in mind: to give the best user experience and to always be one step ahead of the user’s needs.
