The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Burlington City, Vermont, was the healthiest town in the United States, with 92% of healthy residents.
The City of Burlington has the best rate of exercise, as well as the lowest incidence of diabetes, obesity and other chronic illnesses, according to the CDC. It is wealthier with just 8% of its individuals living below federal poverty level and better educated, an estimated 40% of the inhabitants enjoying at least a college bachelor’s degree.
You may wonder which is the explanation for this large percentage of people in good or great health. Burlington residents often practice skiing, hiking, bicycling and other types of exercise. Parks are continuously being enhanced and sidewalks are always repaired and improved. "There's this norm of a lot of activity," said Vermont's deputy health commissioner Chris Finley, who works in Burlington.
Huntington City, West Virginia, is on the opposite pole. The agency said its population’s health is worst than the health of inhabitants in any other U.S. state. Almost 50 percent of them suffer from obesity and 50% of senior citizens have lost all their teeth. 31% of all residents don’t exercise, 22% suffer from heart disease and 13% have diabetics, the CDC said. 19% of people in Huntington live at the federal poverty level and only 15% have a college degree.
