When you hear Tom Burton is directing a new movie –
especially Alice in Wonderland, you
think two things: first of all, it will be another masterpiece; secondly, it
will star Helena Bonham-Carter and/or Johnny Depp. And who can blame Burton
from keeping with this success recipe? Depp starred in most of his movies,
among which we mention the famous Edward Scissorhands, Ed Wood, Sleepy Hollow
and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. His life partner, Bonham-Carter, was
cast in other of his hits, such as Big Fish or Planet of the Apes. Depp and
Bonham-Carter acting together, however, made movies skyrocket to the top of the
box office. Just remember the animated Corpse Bride and the chilling on-screen
musical Sweeney Todd.
His new movie, Alice
in Wonderland, will star both of his favorite actors. If there was any doubt
for the unimaginative ones, yes, Helena Bonham-Carter will of course play the
part of The Queen of Hearts – or the Red Queen. A review of her portrayal is
almost futile, as her interpretation will certainly be astonishing yet true to
the character’s guidelines, as shaped by Lewis Carroll.
Johnny Depp has us used to him playing the oddest characters
– the misfits, if you will. This movie makes no exception, especially if you
take into consideration that the imagination can roam free in a young girl’s
dream. So who else but Depp could be cast to impersonate the Mad Hatter? Again,
as is the case with Bonham-Carter, Depp also cannot fail in what will surely be
a memorable performance on his part.
The White Queen, however, will be played by Anne Hathaway,
made popular by her remarkable role as Andrea in The Devil Wears Prada, where
she wasn’t completely outshined by Meryl Streep, as critics expected.
We are all eagerly expecting Tim Burton’s latest production,
Alice in Wonderland, bound to be a box office hit.
