Building Collapses in Lower Manhattan

The New York City Fire Department confirmed the fact that a building in lower Manhattan has collapsed.

The address of the building is 69 Reade Street, between Broadway and Church streets. According to information from the Department of Buildings, the building was erected in 1920 and currently has an open "work without a permit" construction violation on it. The structure was undergoing renovations.

Emergency crews were quickly deployed at the scene of the collapse. The structure collapsed partially. One entire side of the building collapsed. The Reade Street was closed and the structure will be evaluated for structural soundness, AHN's Linda Young reported.

The collapse was treated by the NY Fire Department as a three-alarm fire. There were no reports of injuries. The buildings surrounding the collapsed structured were evacuated for safety reasons.
