The 29-year-old orangutan at the Los Angeles Zoo tried to escape Saturday evening from his pen but didn’t get too far, as the zoo keepers sedated him and put him back. Give the orangutan a break. Maybe he just wanted to visit the zoo and see the other animals.
According to the Associated Press, he made a hole in the wire fencing and managed to be free about 20 minutes, until a handler spotted him behind the cage.
Although the orangutan never made it to the public area of the zoo, as a measure of protection, 3,000 visitors were escorted towards the front exits while Bruno was exploring the zoo.
Zoo staff said Bruno was sedated, remaining calm through the operation. Luckily, the orangutan was trained to allow zoo keepers give him medicine, that’s why he felt comfortable around them. “He was never aggressive,” promotions coordinator Gina Dart said, according to BBC News.
I guess he was really bored but also too afraid to enter the real world. The zoo is safer. After all this commotion, Bruno was carried back to his bedroom. Maybe he continued his adventure in his dream.
Although he didn’t manage to escape, he should be proud because director John R. Lewis said he was the first orangutan to pull such a stunt. He called Bruno a “trendsetter.”
