Holidays lights, which usually introduce us to the Christmas
spirit, seem to also spread terror on some occasions.
An apartment building at 2334 Boston Road in the Bronxdale
neighborhood was destroyed by a blaze late Sunday afternoon, living the
building in smoke. The fire started at 6:20 p.m. on the eight floor of the
building.
According to a fire official, 26 people were injured in the
blaze, most of them with minor injuries, from smoke inhalation, except one
person who was taken in cardiac arrest to the Jacoby Medical
Center. He was listed in
critical condition, fighting for his life after he had suffered a heart attack,
the hospital representative revealed. They couldn’t tell for sure what caused the
victim’s heart attack.
From the 26 person injured in the fire, 14 were currently
living on the building and 11 were firefighters came to help in extinguishing
the fire.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation,
according to officials, but neighbor Annie Kalaj, 35, told firefighters that
lights on a Christmas tree were to blame for the blaze.
"My daughter said there's a fire in her room from the Christmas decorations.
I called 911, grabbed the kids and ran out," she said, quoted by the New York daily News.
