Saturday, broadcaster Paul Harvey died at age 90, ABC News has reported.
The network announced that Harvey died at a hospital near his winter home in Phoenix, while the cause of death has not been revealed yet.
Harvey was on the air for over 60 years, having become a household name in the United States back in 1951, when he began working for ABC Radio.
Throughout his career, Paul Harvey would begin his show every day by saying „Hello, Americans, this is Paul Harvey! Stand by for news!,” while his sign off phrase was „Paul Harvey ... good day!.”
Moreover, the broadcaster also had some trademark phrases, such as “Stay tuned for the rest of the story” and „May I have your undivided for just a moment.”
Three years ago, Forbes.com quoted an ABC executive who stated that Harvey was bringing in over 10 percent of the network's $300 million in advertising billings.
During his show, Harvey used to interrupt his broadcast with advertisements he narrated himself, yet he did not endorse products that he did not use, which meant that for every commercial he chose to air, 10 sponsors were snubbed.
Paul Harvey Aurandt was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on September 14, 1918, as the son of a police officer who was killed in the line of duty when Paul was only 3 years old.
He began his broadcasting career at the early age of 14 at a small local radio station, KVOO-AM.
While working for the ABC Radio Networks, Harvey broadcast „News and Comment” on weekday mornings and mid-days and at noon on Saturdays, along with his famous The Rest of the Story segments.
His audience was estimated at 22 million people a week.
