Britney’s VMAs Performance Is Official

Following weeks of speculation, MTV confirmed on Thursday that pop princess Britney Spears will be performing at this year’s annual MTV Video Music Awards ceremony this Sunday in Las Vegas.

Four days away from the live telecast, MTV issued a statement Thursday morning revealing what the world already knew, but with Britney you never know for sure.

"Celebrating her long awaited comeback to her fans, Spears will be performing LIVE her new song ‘Gimme More’ from her highly anticipated new album due on November 13," MTV revealed.

According to TMZ.com, MTV also confirmed Britney won’t be doing all the work alone, she’ll have "magician" Criss Angel helping her with the opening act.

Careful not to reveal any details, this year’s VMA executive producers claim Britney will fulfill all expectations.

"You can expect the things we want and expect from Britney, that will all be there," Jesse Ignjatovic told MTV.com. "What I've seen of it is great. She'll be dancing, performing, doing her thing. That's exactly what we all want. Fans that are familiar with her performance on previous VMAs will not be disappointed.

"She'll kill it," he said. "She'll captivate everyone, and set the tone for the rest of the night. There's no one better."

And just to spice her performance up a bit more, ringtones of both "Gimme More," and its intro containing the much debated catchphrase, "It's Britney, bitch," will be available on MTV.com after the show. MTV Mobile also will carry a live simulcast of the show, a first ever for an awards show.

Several days ago, a close source to Britney revealed that she’s planning for a very big "shocking" comeback performance.

Angel also told reporters recently that the reason he and Britney are spending so much time together is because he is helping her with her MTV appearance.

"We were talking about how she wants to do something more with the [awards] show, and about me helping out and hoping to work with her on doing something to make her MTV appearance more innovative," he said.

Despite having numerous hits in the past, Britney never actually won a Moonman, instead, she became a veteran of the show through her shocking performances, attracting more viewers than anyone else.

Starting with her coming-out performance in 2000, when she amazed everyone’s eye by wearing the almost transparent stocking as an outfit, to her "I'm A Slave 4 U" performance a year later, with a 7-foot (2-meter) albino python around her neck. Two years later, her open-mouth kiss with Madonna in the opening act left everyone speechless.

Hopefully, all the hype around the event will be worthwhile, and Britney will regain her title as the world’s pop princess.

Britney’s new single "Gimme More" leaked online just days ago among other songs and debuted on New York station Z-100 Web site within hours.

Singer/songwriter Ne-Yo, who collaborated with Britney on several songs, told Ryan Seacrest on his KIIS-FM radio show last Wednesday: "[Britney has] gotta remind people why they love her in the first place. She's gotta get their minds off her personal life and back on the music."

Her much anticipated album is due for release November 13, Jive Records recently announced.

"The track that leaked is off of Britney Spears's forthcoming album. The song is 'Gimme More,' produced by Danja, [and is] written by Nathaniel 'Danjahands' Hills, James Washington, Keri Hilson, Marcella Araica," a Jive Records spokesperson told People magazine.
