Britney Spears is in real danger of losing her two sons and what little is left of her career seems to be going up in smoke.
The bad news keeps piling for 25-year-old pop singer Britney Spears. The promised and much-advertised “secret” witness attorney Gloria Allred brought to court Monday morning has been identified and he has plenty to say.
Tony Barretto, 28, worked for Britney as a bodyguard from the time she left the Promises rehabilitation center in March until mid-May and reportedly witnessed such inappropriate behavior from his client that he felt his intervention was needed.
Barretto was present in court yesterday and eager to tell how he saw Britney appear nude in front of her two boys, Sean Preston, 2, and Jayden James, 1, numerous times, as well as use drugs.
His filed declaration alleges “nudity, drug use and safety issues post-rehab,” according to media reports.
It doesn’t end here though: the world is still reeling after Britney’s failed comeback on Sept. 9 at the MTV Video Music Awards, former husband Kevin Federline was reportedly in danger and now Britney’s management company has ended the collaboration.
BBC News reports that Los-Angeles based The Firm, the management company Britney had hired for the run-up to the release of her new album on November 13, has terminated the contract.
A statement from the company says, “We have terminated our professional relationship with Britney Spears. We believe she is enormously talented, but current circumstances have prevented us from properly doing our job.”
Oh boy. Nothing seems to be going well in Britney’s life right now, on any level whatsoever.
Federline is trying to gain sole physical custody of their two sons and has had his legal team serve plenty of deposition subpoenas to former and current employees of Britney’s, all of whom will answer questions about her parenting skills and lifestyle.
Federline’s lawyer also handed a deposition subpoena to a chief administrator at the Promises rehabilitation facility in Malibu in mid-August, seeking the singer’s rehab records.
If we are to take some recent reports into consideration, Federline has been conducting his crusading while in danger, as Entertainment Tonight reveals that both the FBI and the LAPD are investigating legitimate leads on a contract hit on his life.
This has not stopped “K-Fed” from going through with an ugly feud over his and Britney’s children. His lawyer, Mark V. Kaplan, has even said the failed rapper wishes to protect his sons from “unnecessary risks.”
Barretto did not testify Monday in court, as Allred expected, but his signed declaration has been filed as evidence. Kaplan seemed confident, as he told reporters outside court, “Sometimes lawyers don't like cross-examining when they don't know what the extent of the answers will be.”
If all this was not enough, Britney’s original lawyer through the ordeal, Laura Wasser, has decided to resign from representing the troubled singer.
“I don't want anyone to perceive that we're dumping Britney,” Wasser was quoted by People magazine as saying. “In a lot of attorney-client relationships, there comes a time when some fresh blood is necessary.”
The “fresh blood” here is celebrity attorney Mel Goldman of Los Angeles law firm Freid and Goldman.
Federline, 29, originally worked as a back-up dancer for Britney when she was at the height of her career. The two married in October 2004 and soon welcomed two babies. Britney filed for divorce last November.
In early 2007, her behavior became odd and erratic – she was friendly with Paris Hilton for a while and reportedly did some partying; she was photographed out and about without her underwear; and finally, she shaved her head in front of paparazzi and entered rehab.
Her divorce from Federline became official on July 30. The two have joint legal and physical custody of Sean Preston and Jayden James 1.
Wasser, who attended yesterday’s two-hour close-door hearing, confirmed that Britney and Federline's current 50-50 custody arrangement for the boys will remain in effect for now.
Federline will receive his monthly $20,000 spousal support for another two months, according to TMZ.com. He will have no more money from his former wife after November 2007, due to the prenuptial agreement he signed.
