Britney Spears’ manager at Jive Records, Larry Rudolph, made
the announcement that the former teenage icon will not be singing on this
year’s MTV Video Music Awards.
''Contrary to media reports, Britney was never slated to
perform on this year's VMAs. She's in the middle of recording her next album
... and her focus remains on the studio,'' he said, as quoted by the Chicago
Sun Times.
The singer’s “Gimme More” comeback performance during last
year’s VMAs proved to be quite a highlight in show-biz, and everybody was left
wondering whether she would be “doing it again” this September 7.
Nevertheless, although she will not be performing, Britney
is nominated for video of the year for “Piece of Me,” facing Chris Brown’s
“Forever,” Jonas Brothers’ “Burning up,” Pussycat Dolls’ “When I Grow Up” and
The Ting Tings’ “Shut Up and Let Me Go.”
The event which will take place at the Paramount Studios in Hollywood will be
presented by the cast from “Twilight”- a supernatural teen drama adapted from
the best-selling novel by author Stephenie Meyer and promises, in terms of
performers, to bring on stage Kid Rock, Lil Wayne, Rihanna, T.I., Pink,
Paramore and Jonas Brothers.
So the 25th edition of MTV Video Music Awards
will definitely live up to its motto: Music. Mayhem. Music. And of course, a
piece of Britney to go with all that.
