Britney Spears certainly appears to be a woman of contradictions, as her personal life is spiraling out of control while her music career is experiencing a revival.
Former pop princess Britney Spears may have lost custody of her two young sons this week but she appears to be on her way to regain that sparkly tiara. Billboard.com announces that the singer has given her new album a name – “Blackout,” while her first single, “Gimme More,” is riding a high wave on the charts.
“Gimme More” has “rocketed” 68-3 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week, selling an impressive 179,000 downloads. Britney hasn’t achieved a top 10 since March 2004, with her “Toxic” single, Billboard says.
The pop singer is also ready to release a video for “Gimme More,” available on iTunes beginning with Oct. 5 and on traditional broadcast outlets beginning with Monday, Oct. 8.
While Britney’s new video brings no innovations, it certainly is a whole lot more flattering for the singer than her controversial and universally-panned Sept. 9, MTV Video Music Awards performance.
It features the 25-year-old in a dual role, that of a dark-haired, provocative dancer and of a blonde, angelic-looking club-goer that is fascinated with the dancer.
“Blackout” is due for release Nov. 13, via Jive Records. According to Billboard, a track list is yet to be announced but the album is known to include the songs “Heaven on Earth,” “Radar,” “Piece of Me” and “Break the Ice.”
Among the production and songwriting collaborators are Bloodshy & Avant, Nate “Danjahandz” Hills and Kara DioGuardi, reports Billboard.
Singer/songwriter Ne-Yo, who collaborated with Britney on several songs, told Ryan Seacrest, more than a month ago, on his KIIS-FM radio show: “[Britney has] gotta remind people why they love her in the first place. She's gotta get their minds off her personal life and back on the music.”
On a funnier note, there were rumors in late August that Britney’s first single would be a lovelorn ballad titled “Baby Boy,” where she sang heartfelt and heartbroken lyrics of being abandoned by the man she thought was “the one.”
It remains to be seen whether her upcoming album includes any weepy tracks.
