Britney's Family Blasts Dr. Phil McGraw

The spokeswoman for Britney Spears' family appeared this morning on the “Today” show blasting Dr. Phil over his public statements about the former pop star's mental health.

“What’s wrong with Dr. Phil’s statement is that he made a statement,” Lou Taylor said. “The family, basically, extended an invitation of trust for him to come in as a resource to support them, not to go out and make public statements.”

Dr. Phil McGraw visited Spears while she was at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles last weekend and subsequently issued a statement in which he disclosed the private meeting and said Britney is in dire need of professional help. The actual text in question, which made headlines all over the media, is as follows:

My meeting with Britney and some of her family members this morning in her room at Cedars leaves me convinced more than ever that she is in dire need of medical and psychological intervention.

U.S. television personality and psychologist Dr. Phil McGraw was forced to cancel the special Britney Spears-intervention episode. McGraw insisted that his decision to scrap the taping with Jamie and Lynne Spears was "because the Spears situation is too intense at this time, and out of consideration to the family."

However, according to several media reports, Dr. Phil was more or less forced to take the decision because Britney’s parents pulled out from the taping over his public statements following the weekend visit. This morning, Lou Taylor said Spears' parents never intended to appear on McGraw's show and it was inappropriate for McGraw to discuss the matter publicly.

Meanwhile, the former pop singer seems to have had another troubled night on Monday, this time involving her car, a white Mercedes. The car was impounded by cops around 8 p.m. after she left it on Sunset Boulevard where she was told that she had a flat tire. Fearing that the car might block the traffic on the roadway, officers ordered the car impounded.

As for Britney, she and her assistant Carla were given a lift by a paparazzo that was following her in the moment of the unfortunate event. Now she has to get back her car from the Quicksilver Towing, after she will have paid a $104 towing fee and $32 for each day the car remains in the tow yard. Britney would not be either fined or get any citations.

On Friday morning, Britney Spears was taken by ambulance to the Cedars Sinai Medical Center following a three-hour standoff with police at her luxury Hollywood home. According to reports, she locked herself and her year-old son Jayden in a bedroom rather than turn them over to her ex-husband's bodyguard as she was supposed to.

The pop diva was reportedly hospitalized under a "5150 Hold," order under which a person is considered a danger to themselves or others as a result of mental disorder.
