Britney's Driving Record Almost Cleared

The hit-and-run charges stemming from Britney Spears’ August accident were dropped after she paid for the other driver’s car damages but she’s still facing a charge of driving without a license.

Los Angeles Superior Court Commissioner Susan Speer dismissed the charges after being informed by Britney’s legal team that the singer impressed the vehicle’s owner Kim Robard-Rifkin by offering a personal apology and $1,000 in compensation.

On August 6, the troubled singer was videotaped by a swarm of paparazzi as she bumped her Mercedes Benz into another still car in a parking lot while attempting to park. Britney checked the damage she caused to the cars and then she fled the scene without even leaving a note.

The car’s owner found out who crashed her car as she watched a video of Britney leaving the parking space which was posted online an filed an accident report on 9 August at a police station in North Hollywood. At that time, Kim Robard-Rifkin said all she wanted was to have the damage done to her car covered.

“[She] is very sympathetic toward Britney and hopes the best for her,” Britney’s attorney Michael Flanagan told People magazine.

Although she can count the first charge out, Britney is still facing a charge of driving without a license, to which Flanagan entered a plea of “not guilty” on his client's behalf.

However, Flanagan insisted outside the court that the plea deal over the license charge which would place her on probation for a year was unnecessary since Britney rectified the situation by recently getting a California driving license.

“She got a license, she has insurance, has always had insurance,” he told reporters. “The question is: Is probation really necessary?”

In other Britney Spears-related news, the singer and her ex-hubby, Kevin Federline, are due in court on Friday to resume the custody fight over their two sons, 2-year-old Sean Preston and one-year-old Jayden James. Currently, the boys’ father has the full custody while Britney was awarded monitored visitation rights, which she lost briefly for disobeying a judge’s court order.

Today’s court hearing is expected to feature the official results of a parenting coach's evaluation of Britney's mothering skills but according to reports, it won’t benefit Britney too much since a coach’s report on the singer accused her of ignoring her children and being uncooperative.

Superior Court Commissioner Scott Gordon ruled during a previous court hearing that there is evidence the 25-year-old star is a “habitual, frequent and continuous” user of drugs and alcohol and ordered her to submit to random drug and alcohol testing, among many other rules aimed to bring Britney on the right path.

Next on Britney’s schedule is the release of her new “comeback” album “Blackout” which hits the stores on October 30, two weeks than it was initially announced. The album, containing the hit single “Gimme More”, has so far received positive reviews.
