Jamie Spears will remain in control of daughter Britney Spears’ estate until July 31, according to a court ruling Wednesday in an unscheduled hearing.

Superior Court Commissioner Reva Goetz extended Jamie Spears’ control until July 31, during an unscheduled hearing that took place Wednesday.

“I can confirm that the order was issued this afternoon, but I don't know the attorneys' motives,” Superior Court spokesman Allan Parachini told People magazine.

Jamie Spears’ temporary co-conservatorship of his famous daughter’s estate has been in place since early February, while the pop singer was hospitalized at the UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles.

Goetz named him and attorney Andrew Wallet temporary co-conservators. It was to expire on March 10.

Parachini did not provide further details regarding Wednesday’s hearing. People quotes unnamed sources according to which hearings are still scheduled before Goetz on March 10 and 17.

Spears’ status as co-conservator allows him control over Britney’s finances and estate, as well as decisions over her personal life. He has already exercised this control by firing Britney’s manager Howard Grossman, who was accused of not following his directions and by seeking and receiving a restraining order against self-titled manager and friend Sam Lutfi.

In mid-February, Britney’s 30-year-old brother Bryan Spears, along with his attorney Ivan Taback, were named co-trustees of the trust where the pop singer keeps most of her estimated $100 million fortune.

Court papers specified that trust funds are used “to pay for Britney's continued security, and to pay for her medicine, food, other day-to-day expenses and for psychiatric and other medical services.”

Jamie Spears appears to be having a positive influence on his daughter’s life. In late February, Britney saw her two toddler sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James, for the first time since the Jan. 3 standoff with police, when she was first hospitalized.

Britney had lost her visitation rights but lawyers for her and former husband Kevin Federline eventually worked out a visitation schedule that satisfied both sides. Federline’s lawyer, Mark Vincent Kaplan, attributed this change to Papa Spears’ beneficial presence in Britney’s life.

Federline continues to have full custody of the two young boys.
