Britney Spears promised to do it and she did it. Again. And there’s
no “Oops!” this time. The singer’s much talked about comeback proved to be much
more than a mere comeback. It’s a blast! Britney Spears is on top again, as her
new single claimed the first spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, a position
the singer reached only once, almost a decade ago, with her 1999 single “Baby
One More Time.”
Billboard announced that the song, which is Britney’s first
single from her upcoming album, went up last week from an initial No. 96 to an
impressive No. 1, boosted by download sales of 286,000, the biggest debut-week mark
obtained by a female artist, outshining even the record-holder, Mariah Carey
and “Touch My Body.”
“Womanizer” also holds the first spot on iTunes charts in Canada, France,
Spain and Sweden, according to Jive, Britney
Spears’ record company.
Lately, reports regarding an impending Britney tour have
been circulating, strengthened by one of the artist’s previous declarations
that she would hit the road in 2009 so as to promote her new album, “Circus,”
due to be released on December 2, the day the singer turns 27.
In spite of the fact that Britney’s No. 1 singles are
separated by approximately 10 years, the pop star has only had three other
songs in the US top 10, “Toxic,” “Oops!...I Did It Again,” as well as “You
Drive Me Crazy.”
