Britney's Blogger-Defender Gets TV Deal

The teenager that became an overnight Internet sensation with his intensely emotional defense of pop singer Britney Spears will have his own television show.

Chris Crocker, 19, was so indignant and outraged by the public dissection of Britney’s MTV Video Music Awards performance, that he posted a video on his YouTube profile that attracted millions of users.

Within the first 24 hours of being posted, the “Leave Britney Alone” video had scored a massive 2 million views. A week later, that figure was closer to 8 million. A distraught, sobbing, cursing yet compassionate Chris tells the whole world to just leave Britney alone.

During the video’s 2 minutes, he cries that she is “not well” and that she is only trying and that everyone out there criticizing her is just being cruel and unfair.

While there have been questions over the authenticity of Chris’s tears (he answered those by saying the strong light obscured the tears) or of his feelings for Britney (he says he’s a diehard fan), Chris does make a point:

“She lost her aunt, she went through a divorce, she had two f---ing kids, her husband turned out to be a user, a cheater, and now she's going through a custody battle. All you people care about is readers and making money off of her. She's a human!”

Championing for Britney seems to have led to a gratifying event for Chris Crocker: 44 Blue Productions has worked out a deal with the young man, Variety reports.

“Chris first got on our radar a year ago,” said 44 Blue prexy/co-founder Rasha Drachkovitch, adding he wants to develop a show that focuses on Chris.

“It's going to pretty much be the ‘Chris Crocker experience,’” quotes Variety. “We consider him a rebel character that people will find interesting. He's going to be a TV star.”

Before his newfound YouTube glory, Chris was successful with his MySpace profile. The 19-year-old, who is openly gay, lives in Tennessee with his grandparents.

Monday, Sept. 10, one day after the Video Music Awards, Britney’s puzzling comeback performance was on everybody’s mind. She was ripped apart, made fun of and criticized in every possible way – and then Chris Crocker’s video became public knowledge and he too gained notoriety.

The blogger even appeared on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” and has been the target of numerous spoofs, including one from actor Seth Green.
