Britney and Ex-Hubby Back In Court

Britney Spears and Kevin Federline are scheduled to appear in a Los Angeles courthouse Tuesday, April 6, for a child-custody hearing.

It has been nearly three months since Britney Spears lost custody of her two children to former husband Kevin Federline, after an especially erratic display of behavior.

She currently has monitored visitation rights with sons Sean Preston, 2, and Jayden James, 1, several times a week. She has no overnight privileges.

The troubled singer has been under the conservatorship of her father since her second release from UCLA Medical Center in February. She is expected to attend the custody status hearing with her parents, reports the Associated Press. Federline will also attend, said his spokesman, Elliot Mintz.

Having her family take care of her seems to have been benefic for Britney, as her public appearances have been noticeably calm and discrete. She has been seldom photographed and usually in the presence of her mother or father.

Last week, she visited her hometown of Kentwood, La., for her younger sister Jamie Lynn’s baby shower. People magazine reports this was Britney’s first return to Kentwood in more than a year.

The same source adds that while the pop singer has been very well behaved lately, it is unlikely that her custody status changes. “As long as Britney remains under a conservatorship, she has a long way to go before the court views her as a capable mother,” L.A. family lawyer Scott Weston, who is not involved in the case, told People.

Father Jamie Spears and lawyer Andrew Wallet are to maintain legal control of her affairs until a July 31 hearing.

Despite personal struggles, Britney has not relinquished her career. A March 24 cameo appearance on CBS sitcom “How I Met Your Mother” as a receptionist named Abby will be followed by a second portrayal of the character in an episode that airs on May 12.
