Britney Spears to Spice Up VMAs

The pop icon is reportedly going to sing not one but two brand new tunes at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards ceremony, according to media reports.

Lily Allen and Amy Winehouse may have dropped out of the VMAs but good ole’ Britney will probably more than fill in their missing performances.

The 25-year-old singer is hard at work to regain her pop princess tiara and new music is bound to haunt our ears for a while now. According to USA Today, Britney will sing “Gimme More,” a track already on the airwaves and the brand new “Cry.”

Sunday’s performance will allegedly include an act with illusionist Criss Angel. Britney has been dutifully followed by paparazzi who report that she spends quite a bit of time with the magician – for reasons both professional and personal.

However, neither rumored romances nor the nasty custody feud she’s having with the former Mr. Spears are keeping her from doing her job. “Gimme More,” a single off her upcoming new album, due Nov. 13, has been on the radio for less than a week but is reportedly doing fine.

It was first posted on PerezHilton.com and TMZ.com and then premiered, minutes later, on New York station Z-100 Web site.

Singer/songwriter Ne-Yo, who collaborated with Britney on several songs, told Ryan Seacrest on his KIIS-FM radio show last Wednesday: “[Britney has] gotta remind people why they love her in the first place. She's gotta get their minds off her personal life and back on the music.”

Britney is doing precisely that: reminding fans why they worshipped her in the first place. Can you already picture the crowd cheering for Brit-Brit when she appears on stage at the VMAs this Sunday?

Her representative has made no comments about Britney’s rumored performance but that is only building up the excitement.

One of the star’s dancers told USA Today that Criss Angel will indeed help Britney make a grand entrance, using mirrors that make her disappear and appear. “She's a very talented young lady and she's going to do an amazing job with the new album,” the illusionist told People magazine.
