What should have been a fun family homecoming turned into a medical scare for Britney Spears as her youngest son, Jayden James, 2, reportedly suffered a seizure and was rushed to a Kentwood hospital 25 miles away from the pop singer's family home.

During Britney's first visit with her two children to her hometown in Louisiana this weekend after losing their custody to her ex-hubby Kevin Federline, the toddler was taken to the emergency ward after lapsing into a "vague and unresponsive" state on Sunday afternoon. According to insiders from Britney's camp, Jayden was actually rushed to the hospital due to a "terrible allergic reaction" People magazine reported.

"One minute Britney and her sons were relaxing and enjoying their first visit to Kentwood in months, and the next minute Jayden had fallen ill," a source was quoted by the Daily Mail as saying. "He was vague and unresponsive so Britney dialled an ambulance."

The toddler reportedly "had hives, was itchy and irritable," a source told People.

Realizing it would take at least half an hour for an ambulance to reach them, all members of the Spears family, who gathered at the family home in Kentwood, Louisiana, made the 25-mile dash to Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Centre, Mississippi, where Jayden James was kept overnight for observation. Britney insisted on sleeping in a bed next to him.

"Britney was insistent that wouldn't leave him. She asked for a bed to be made up in the same room so she could be there at his side," another source said.

Although a hospital spokesperson refused to disclose any information about the case claming the patients' right to privacy, Britney's older brother, Bryan, was spotted leaving the hospital with the singer's oldest son, 3-year-old Sean Preston.

A source close to the family told E! News that K-Fed was making all possible arrangements to fly out to the Mississippi facility as soon as possible.

The pop star and her two boys were seen boarding a private plane at an airport in Van Nuys, California, on Friday, the morning after Britney took the stage at Madonna's concert. They were joined by Britney's father and conservator, Jamie Spears. The trip marked the first time Jayden James visited his grandparents' home and also the first time both him and his brother met their cousin Maddie, the baby daughter of Jamie Lynn Spears and Casey Aldridge.

"This is a terrific indication of the progress she’s made, and the growing trust between the two parents," an insider said regarding the children's visit to Kentwood. "It was arranged cooperatively between Kevin (Federline) and the lawyers. Britney just wanted to get some family time in and show the boys Louisiana, now that they’re getting older."
