Pop princess Britney Spears’ traffic accidents and paparazzi
incidents of the last year or so seem a thing of the past but her past
apparently still has a grasp on the present, as she is due in court for driving
without a valid driver’s license in August 2007.
Among the more chaotic things Britney Spears did in 2007
were quite a few incidents involving the ever-present paparazzi and cars, with
secondary characters such as an umbrella or a pap’s toes, allegedly.
It is such an episode that has Spears scheduled to appear in
court next month.
Last summer, Spears was driving her car down Ventura Blvd. when
she hit a parked car and left the scene. She was trying to escape from her ever
present company, the hounding paparazzi.
Spears was charged at the time with misdemeanor
hit-and-run and driving a vehicle without a license, authorities said,
as she apparently did not hold a valid California
driver’s license.
Trials are not what Britney Spears envisages for the near
future though, as her attorney J. Michael Flanagan filed a petition in Los
Angeles Superior Court on Monday asking for a delay, reports the Associated
Press.
Flanagan has filed petitions before concerning the misdemeanor
charge, requesting that it be dismissed and Spears be allowed to pay a fine. As
things stand now, she faces a criminal trial and if convicted, could face up to
a year in jail.
Spears obtained a proper driver’s license soon after the
incident.
Flanagan also states in Monday’s papers that since his
client is currently under the conservatorship of her father, she is not able to
participate in the trial in a meaningful way.
James Spears has been in control of the 26-year-old’s
personal and financial affairs since February of this year.
