Wearing an outfit that made her resemble an extremely sexy ringmaster and leading a vivid and vibrant cast that included jugglers, acrobats and martial arts dancers, Queen of Pop Britney Spears offered a firmly choreographed, if mechanical performance on Tuesday night as she started her first concert tour in half a decade.
The 27-year-old singer’s “Circus” gig tour kicked off in her home state, Louisiana, at the New Orleans Arena in front of a nearly sold-out audience that rooted for the star as she swiveled and glided across the stage while performing some of her best known hits, from her recently released single “Womanizer” to her first track, “Baby One More Time,” which became a classic in the meantime.
The stormy clapping and appreciation have been basically absent from Britney Spears’ career since the last time she hit the road for a concert tour in 2004, since the pop star underwent an overwhelming descending twist. As a result of personal issues, Britney Spears left behind the title of one of music industry’s most profitable figures and transformed into a troubled celebrity that dominated headlines with her out-of-control conduit that seemed to lead her on the way to obliteration.
However, Britney Spears has managed to follow the right path again throughout the past year and she embarked on a very successful comeback that revitalized both her image and her career.
The singer started the show with the title track of her new album, “Circus,” and continued with “Piece of Me,” which she sang mainly from a cage that marked only an element of the complex and sophisticated stage backdrops.
