Britney Spears Held For Another Two Weeks At UCLA

Britney Spears will spend 14 more days in the psychiatric ward at UCLA Medical Center, according to the media reports. AOL’s celebrity site TMZ.com said that the paperwork is complete.

According to an anonymous source, quoted by the Associated Press Spears hospitalization was extended under a California’s state law that allows doctors to keep in the hospital the patients who are considered a danger for themselves or other persons.

Britney Spears was due to released on Saturday, but the doctors decided to keep her longer. Spears' detainment made it unlikely she would appear at a scheduled Monday morning hearing over custody of her children, 1-year-old Jayden James and 2-year-old Sean Preston. Also, on Monday, a court hearing is scheduled to decide the extension of the temporary conservatorship granted to Spears’ father.

The media claims that Britney Spears was diagnosed as a severe bipolar patient, but there is no official confirmation.

Last week, on Thursday Britney Spears was transported to the UCLA Medical Center in an ambulance escorted by an impressive police team of 11 police motorcycles, two squad cars and two police helicopters. The Los Angeles police claims the security measures were required in order to protect Britney and for public safety.
"This was a public safety concern, and they did what was needed to get her transported," said officer Anna Aguirre

On Friday, after Britney Spears was admitted in the UCLA Medical Center, a Los Angeles court appointed James Spears and his lawyer, Andrew Wallet as the conservators of the Britney Spears estate. Also the court issued a restraining order against Sam Lufti, Spear’s former manager.

For Britney Speas this is the second admission to a hospital in less than one month. On January 3 Britney Spears was taken by ambulance to the Cedars Sinai Medical Center following a three-hour standoff with police at her luxury Hollywood home. According to reports, she locked herself and her year-old son Jayden in a bedroom rather than turn them over to her ex-husband's bodyguard as she was supposed to.

The pop diva was reportedly hospitalized under a "5150 Hold," order under which a person is considered a danger to themselves or others as a result of mental disorder.
