Pop star Britney Spears may be on her way to the top once
again, after a successful comeback, but the court believes she is definitely
still not ready to take charge over her own affairs. Thus, a Los Angeles judge
decided on Tuesday to extend indefinitely her father’s handling of her personal
and financial issues, an arrangement that was due to expire on December 31.
In addition, the conservatorship also authorizes the people
who manage Britney Spears’ affairs, including the singer’s father, Jamie
Spears, and several lawyers, to recommend the star what they consider that it’s
best for her professional career as well.
In spite of the fact that the once-upon-a-time pop princess
did not agree with the deal when it was inflicted initially, on February 1, her
attorney informed the court that she had nothing to object with regard to the
arrangement, after the clauses had been explained to her.
The 26-year-old star may formally request later for the conservatorship
to be removed, but if she does not, the court’s ruling will stand permanently,
according to a court information officer cited by The Associated Press.
Los Angeles Superior Court Commissioner Reva Goetz explained
on Tuesday that she was allowing the permanent conservatorship partially
because the singer has repeatedly proved that she is predisposed to “undue
influence.”
Moreover, taking into account the attorneys’ proposals and
other assessments focused on Britney Spears, Reva Goetz said that the decision
to extend the conservatorship was “necessary and appropriate.”
The measures taken by the court commissioner were the result
of a prolonged private discussion and a recent medical evaluation of the star,
whose father has taken control over her affairs following numerous
controversial episodes that included erratic conduct, as well as a couple of
hospitalizations.
Nevertheless, Britney Spears’ conservatorship seems to be
very beneficial for the singer, as she is protected from various legal matters,
such as a Florida court case which practically
exploded yesterday in Los Angeles
after one of Spears’ ex managers took to court his personal issues with the
star and requested for her to undergo a deposition.
Johnny Wright’s intentions, however, were impeded after
Jamie Spears and his legal representatives asked for a protective order against
his daughter giving official statements, which was granted by Reva Goetz at
least until February.
Britney Spears is also involved in a misdemeanor trial for
driving without a license, but she did not give her testimony, as her father
testified on her behalf.
The singer may also make another attempt to gain more
visitation with her sons, who are in custody of their dad, Kevin Federline.
Britney Spears’ new album, “Circus,” is due for release on
December 2, the day she turns 27. She is also said to hit the road in 2009 to
promote the fresh product. In the meantime, fans can watch her video for
“Womanizer,” the star’s first single from her upcoming album.
