Paparazzi magnet Britney Spears was cleared of any fault in an accident that led a paparazzo to pressing charges against her claiming that she ran over his foot with her car, officials said Monday.
Back in November, Spears had the bad luck of having to back up her car surrounded by crazed paparazzi. At the time, one of the photographers insisted that the singer had run over his foot.
Six months later, he filed a police complaint against Spears. The photographer, whose name remains unknown, sought a felony charge of failing to stop after an accident involving an injury, reports The Associated Press.
Prosecutors however were not convinced with the photog’s claims and concluded that if anyone was to blame for any possible injury, it was the paparazzo himself.
Deputy District Attorney Joseph D. Shidler reviewed police records and a video of the incident which made it on the Internet last year and concluded that the “only way the victim’s foot could have been where the video indicates it to be was by the victim placing it in that location,” per the AP.
The scene of the alleged “crime” was chaotic according to police reports, with photographers crowding and bustling to be closer to Spears as she was “driving at an extremely slow rate of speed and in a straight path,” despite the “noise and confusion” created by the mass of people.
So the disgruntled photographer could only have been injured if he’d placed his foot there himself. Go figure.
The afore-mentioned accident took place in a time where all sorts of incidents took place when Spears drove her car around town. There were reports that she had run over someone’s foot with her car on three different occasions: first over a paparazzo’s foot and then over the foot of a Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputy. This was her third.
