Britney Spears Agrees With Dad's Permanent Control Over Her Affairs

A judge decided on Tuesday that Britney Spears is not ready to handle everything by herself just yet, and extended her father Jamie's conservatorship indefinitely. Jamie Spears was first named conservator, which means he was granted control of her health care, legal, and financial affairs, earlier this year after his daughter's nervous breakdowns earlier this year.

The temporary conservatorship, which started on February 1, after the troubled pop singer was placed in the hospital for a psychiatric hold following a high profile incident in which she refused to hand over one of her children for a scheduled visit with his father, was due to end on December 31.

However, during a lengthy closed-chambers meeting and evaluation of Britney's mental health records, Spears' court-appointed attorney told the court commissioner that the singer had the situation explained to her and chose not to oppose her father remaining in control, Usmagazine.com reported.

Essentially, Britney’s dad is now set to be her legal guardian indefinitely until a court lifts the order. Under the permanent conservatorship a medical team will oversee Britney’s career to make sure what she does will not compromise her mental health.

"The court finds the proposed permanent conservatorship is necessary and appropriate [because of the] complexities of her financial and business entities and also potential for her being susceptible to influences," said Los Angeles Superior Court Commissioner Reva Goetz, who has been presiding over the case. An evaluation detailing Spears' psychological fortitude has been completed and will remain sealed, Goetz said. Another status hearing has been set for Dec. 22.

Undoubtedly, the 26-year-old singer seems like she is doing much better now under her father’s supervision, and time might have been proper for a judge lifted the order. However, this does not mean a court thinks Britney Spears is permanently incapable of running her own affairs.

While the move may come as a surprise since Britney appears to be doing well, it is reportedly part of her efforts to gain back the custody rights to her two children, Sean Preston, 2, and Jayden James, 1. A family law commissioner will feel more comfortable giving her added face time if there is a safety net, sources told TMZ.

Most recently, Spears’ legal team unsuccessfully attempted to use her conservatorship as grounds to delay her recent traffic-related court case, which ended in a mistrial earlier this month, arguing that if she were unfit to manage her own life, she should have also been considered unfit to assist in her own defense.

In the meantime, rumor has it that Britney will host "Saturday Night Live" for the third time sometime in the days leading up to the December 2 release of her new album, "Circus." However, the singer’s rep and a spokesman for the NBC show denied that she has been booked.
